Durban will be a hive of activity on Sunday, 22 July 2018 when thousands of runners, including the likes of Glenrose Xaba and Tish Jones, toe the line at the Totalsports Women’s Race in support of PinkDrive.

Xaba will make her Totalsports Women’s Race Durban debut on the day (having previously competed at the Totalsports Women’s Race in Johannesburg), while Jones will make her Totalsports Women’s Race debut in Durban.

“I love running in Durban,” says Xaba.  “I love running, meeting new people and competing with the best.  I really enjoy running cross-country (XC), but 10km is my best distance.  It is great to have a ‘women only’ race that supports PinkDrive, a cause that is doing really good work for women.”

“My goal is always to go for the win,” continues Xaba.  “That is what I will aim for on race day.  I am looking forward to Durban’s warm weather, and of course the race.  My personal best time for a 10km race is 32.22 set in April this year.  I will definitely try to better this time at the Totalsports Women’s Race in Durban.”

According to Jones, she enjoys the sport because it’s a great test of pace and endurance.  “Road running is accessible to so many people and it unites people of all shapes, sizes and abilities.  I’ve always wanted to take part in the Totalsports Women’s Race.  It’s a great initiative that encourages women from all over South Africa to come together and discover a higher awareness of an important subject, while celebrating Womanhood.”

“I am looking forward to being part of the atmosphere, joining in on the celebrations and running alongside some super strong ladies,” continues Jones.  “I must admit, 10km isn’t my favourite distance to race, however I do enjoy how challenging it is for such a short journey.  I feel more anxious at the shorter races because of the fierce pace from the gun.  The longer the race, the less anxious I become.  This will be my first race back after recovering from injury.  I am keen to see where my fitness level is currently at, but I do not anticipate bettering my personal best time of 32.56 set in 2017.”
