The Rivertones “ready to reggae” at the THIRSTI AFRICANX TRAILRUN Three Day Stage Race!

“Let Nature Give You A Run For Your Money”

South Africa’s favourite Reggae band, The Rivertones, will bring great vibes to South Africa’s premier Three Day Stage Trail Run, the THIRSTI AFRICANX TRAILRUN, that will take place at the Houw Hoek Hotel (Western Cape) from Saturday 19 to Monday 21 March 2022.

“The Rivertones, fronted by lead vocalist and guitarist Roland G Nair, have been rocking South Africa with great reggae vibes since 2006,” says Sandi Westgarth-Taylor, The Rivertones General Manager. “Roland works with a variety of highly talented local and international backing musicians to provide great upbeat, skanking reggae beats.  On stage since the age of 12, Roland has had the great honour of sharing the stage with the likes of Bob Marley’s band The Wailers, Bunny Wailer, Lucky Dube and Hugh Masekela, amongst others.”

Currently performing across the country at many live music venues and private functions, The Rivertones deliver a positive, joyful reggae rhythm.

“Personally, I think that trail runners are a ‘little nuts’,” laughs Westgarth-Taylor. “We prefer to get our fitness kick through music and dancing, but to each his own. Truth be told, we are in awe of these nutters and are thrilled to be booked to perform at the THIRSTI AFRICANX TRAILRUN. We absolutely love the vibe that these sporting events bring. The ‘gees’ is always amazing.”

She adds: “The runners can look forward to experiencing upbeat reggae vibes. Our music definitely brings the party. Look forward to jamming to a range of commercial covers set to a reggae beat, great Bob Marley, UB40 covers and a smattering of our own originals. Our goal is to contribute to the vibe that the runners bring. We know the ‘gees’ will be strong, so we will do our best to ramp that up!”

More Fun: In addition to sensational trail running (with spectacular on route experiences and well stocked water points) and a fantastic live performance by The Rivertones, trail runners can look forward to enjoying: a Marimba Band performance, Wine Tastings, a Pasta Party, Bingo and Popcorn, Fire Drums and S’mores, a Slippery Slide, Bavaria Beer Mile, Pool Party, Dress Up Day, Bavaria Beer Garden, a Gordon’s Gin Bar and a Putt Putt Competition.

Launched in 2009, the THIRSTI AFRICANX TRAILRUN is synonymous with magnificent trails, spectacular views, mouth-watering food, a relaxed atmosphere, great vibe and most importantly, teamwork! Teams of two trail running enthusiasts (male/female/mixed) will be seen battling it out on a route varying in distances each day.  Each stage will feature a different route that is guaranteed to keep things challenging, yet exciting while leaving runners in awe.

A uniquely sourced natural spring water that is rich in minerals, THIRSTI, a proudly South African brand, became the proud Title Sponsor of the THIRSTI AFRICANX TRAILRUN in 2021.
