Johannesburg – Athletics South Africa (ASA) has welcomed Sizwe Medical Fund & 3SixtyLife as the title sponsor of the ASA Senior Track & Field and Combined Events Championships that will be hosted at the Germiston Athletics Stadium in Johannesburg from Thursday, 25 April 2019 – Saturday, 27 April 2019.
The sponsorship agreement is for the duration of three years and the official name is now Sizwe Medical Fund & 3SixtyLife ASA Senior Track & Field and Combined Events Championships.
The Senior Championships are the pinnacle of the Track & Field Competition in South Africa boasting performances by multiple 800m Olympic and World Champion Caster Semenya, Olympic and 100m World Championship finalist and Commonwealth Games gold medalist Akani Simbine, men’s long jump sensations, Ruswahl Samaai and Luvo Manyonga as well as world record holder in the men’s 400m Olympic and World Champion, Wayde van Niekerk.
As always, South Africa can expect high quality competition with the sprints expected to lead attention where former world U18 200m silver medallist, Tlotliso Gift Leotlela will be making his return to the sport after an injury layoff. Will the SA 200m record holder, Clarence Munyai claim his first senior national sprint title? Can the “Tornado” from Thembisa, Ryan Mphahlele show his rivals a clean pair of heals in the men’s 1500m? Mphahlele has only just joined the senior ranks and is already making life hard for his more established contemporaries. Will Sunette Viljoen win her 10th national javelin title and Chris Harmse, will he be taking aim at his 12th consecutive national hammer throw title?
These are but just some of the incredible duels we can expect at the Championships. On the fast track of Germiston, spectators can look forward to some incredibly fast times in the sprint events.
“We are proud to welcome Sizwe Medical Fund & 3SixtyLife as the title sponsor of these Championships,” said Aleck Skhosana, the President of ASA. “With the standard of South African athletics having made tremendous international strides over the last few years, there is an ever growing hunger by fans to witness South Africa’s best athletes competing on home soil.
“The Sizwe Medical Fund & 3SixtyLife Senior Track & Field and Combined Events Championships are the country’s premier Track & Field competition in Athletics. With Sizwe Medical Fund & 3SixtyLife’s support we look forward to building on this legacy. The Championships will be explosive, entertaining and of the expected highest standard. Supporters can look forward to seeing SA’s elite compete for national colours.”
Vuyiswa Majova, Group Marketing Executive Sizwe Medical Fund said: “Sizwe Medical Fund is proud and humbled by the association with ASA. At Sizwe Medical Fund, we believe and continually strive to ensure that South Africans remain healthy. We are of the view that this association with ASA enables us to achieve exactly this goal.
“With the focus increasingly being on wellness in general, sports and exercise have emerged as vital components of intervention in improving the lives of a nation. ASA has long been the champion of this and we are particularly excited to partner with them on this journey. What better way to promote health other than through one of the most easily accessible ways, that all citizens can be part of and lead healthy and active lives – the activity of athletics. While this association means that we can encourage a healthy way of living, it also provides Sizwe Medical Fund with the opportunity to support athletes and their families across the country.
“Likewise, as 3Sixty Life, we are really excited to partner with ASA, the powerhouse of Athletics in Africa and the world,” continues Majova. “We take pride in getting close to and working with some of the talent that the sport has produced in the likes of Wayde, Caster and Akani, to name just a few.
“As a business we want to change the status quo, challenging the norms and scaling new heights. We believe that the association, through this sponsorship, gets us closer to this desired goal. ASA has ensured that athletics is a growing and highly visible sport in South Africa and the world, and we are keen to play our part in taking the sport to the next level.”
ASA announced earlier this year that the Sizwe Medical Fund & 3SixtyLife ASA Senior Track & Field and Combined Events Championships will be compulsory for all athletes who would like to be selected in any ASA team for international championships.
The support sponsors for the Championships are Adidas, Vital and Rhodes Food Group.
