Celebrating its 10th anniversary at the ATKV Buffelspoort on Sunday 04 June 2023, the Fedhealth Platinum Trail Run has attracted the attention of ‘pro trail runner turned roadie turned coach’, Rory Scheffer (Hurlingham, Johannesburg).
“I’m looking forward to taking part in my first Fedhealth Platinum Trail Run,” says Scheffer. “I’ve heard that the event attracts quite a competitive field, so I can’t wait to race some of the strongest trail runners in the area. I’ve also never been to the area before, so I’m excited to explore the trails there.”
“My goal is to do as well as I can,” confirms Scheffer. “Having not done the event before I will play it safe and run within myself. I’ll see where that puts me. Hopefully I’ll get a podium finish.”
Scheffer will face tough competition from defending Champion, Collin Kanyimo (Pretoria East) and Alberton runner, Retsepile Khotle. When asked about his goal for race day, Khotle replied: “The lion is hungry.”

CHARITY SUPPORT: The Fedhealth Platinum Trail Run proudly support the The Kindness Collaboration. Founded by Fedhealth and Operation Healing Hands (OHH), The Kindness Collaboration offers much needed support to South Africans who cannot afford quality medical care. All medical professionals associated with OHH provide their time and skills for free; the funds raised go towards expenses such as consumables and random medical expenses. When entering the event online, trail runners can donate towards the cause.
FREE RIDER JERSEY: Entrants that donate R400 or more towards The Kindness Collaboration will receive a rider jersey compliments of OHH and Fedhealth.
PRIZE PURSE: The Fedhealth Platinum Trail Run Long Route (+-24km) boasts a R22 000.00 Prize Purse in 2023. The overall men’s and women’s winners will take home R3000 each, while R2000 will go to the runners’ up with third place finishers securing R1000 each. Prize money has also been allocated to the top three finishers in the following categories: Senior Men and Women, Sub Vet Men and Women, Vet Men and Women, Master Men and Women and Grandmaster Men and Women.
