Run the Absa RUN YOUR CITY DURBAN 10K in support of five local charities!

Durbanites have the opportunity to make their run count by supporting five local charities when they enter the 2022 Absa RUN YOUR CITY (RYC) DURBAN 10K that will celebrate its 5th anniversary on Sunday 10 July 2022.

The five life changing charities are: LIV Village, TREE (Training and Resources in Early Education), Durban & Coast SPCA, iThemba Lethu and Reach For A Dream Foundation (RFAD).

Based in the community of Cottonlands, just outside of Verulam in Durban (KZN), LIV Village was founded in 2010 and first opened to mothers and children in August 2011.

“LIV provides holistic residential care for vulnerable and orphaned children. Our vision is to Rescue, Restore, Raise, Release,” says Jo Moon, LIV Durban / Lungisisa Indlela Village. “We are grateful for the partnership with the Absa RYC DURBAN 10K. It’s a privilege to partner with an event that encourages runners/walkers from all walks of life to unite, enjoy an active lifestyle while supporting local charities. We look forward to racing and experiencing the camaraderie.” For further information on LIV Village please visit www.liv-village.com

Founded in 1984, TREE (Training and Resources in Early Education) is a non-profit organisation that specialises in Early Childhood Development (ECD), Resource and Training development of/for the ECD Workforce with a special focus on Women Empowerment

“The Absa RYC DURBAN 10K is is an incredible opportunity for people to go out and be active especially after the two years where we struggled with the COVID-19 pandemic and also had to deal with looting that shook KZN,” says Ruby Motaung, TREE Director.  “Our TREE team is excited and enthusiastic to join the runners and celebrate with everyone involved. We are honoured to have been chosen as an event charity for another year. The partnership will increase our brand awareness and marketing strategy. It will further help us to network our organisation in our beloved city of Durban. All the contributions made from participants will go towards the work TREE does in ensuring that quality ECD is provided to those who need it most. As an organisation, we want to say all the best to all the entrants! Have fun running or walking the 10K with your loved ones. We are looking forward to meeting you there and running with you!” For further information on TREE please visit www.tree-ecd.co.za

The Durban & Coast SPCA rescues abused and neglected domestic, farm and wild animals, while promoting responsible pet ownership, providing a shelter for strays, and a veterinary service for pets of underprivileged people.

“Our mission is to improve the welfare of and to prevent the cruelty to all animals in the greater Durban and North Coast areas,” says Tanya Fleischer, Marketing Manager Durban & Coast SPCA. “We achieve this by rescuing and treating animals, sheltering stray and unwanted animals, providing subsidised veterinary care for underprivileged or pensioned pet owners and educating the public about responsible pet ownership. We’re excited to be celebrating our 125th anniversary in 2022, the same year that the Absa RYC DURBAN 10K turns 5. We love the event and are honoured to continue our partnership. A big shout out to all participants. Please support our furry orphans and have an awesome Race Day.” The Durban & Coast SPCA is always in need of cat/kitten and dog/puppy food to feed the animals in their care, as well as blankets. For further information on the Durban & Coast SPCA please visit:  www.spcadbn.org.za

Since 2000, iThemba Lethu has been a transition home for many abandoned and vulnerable babies and children, providing a safe, loving and nurturing place as we work to re-unite them back into their biological families or find them new forever families through the process of adoption.

“iThemba Lethu brings hope to the community of Cato Manor and to vulnerable, abandoned children across Durban,” says Melissa Leslie, iThemba Lethu Co-ordinator. “The Absa RYC DURBAN 10K is such an incredible nation building event – creating unity and bringing together fellow South Africans in a common love of running. It is a privilege to be part of this event and celebrate the beauty and potential of our city as we join together. We would like runners to know that every single person can be part of the story of hope for our city. Together we are better. Get involved in some small way and you can make a huge difference.” For further information on iThemba Lethu please visit:  www.ithembalethu.org.za

Established in 1988, Reach For A Dream (RFAD) seeks to inspire hope and help children to believe in the power of dreams.

“For 34 years Reach For A Dream has been inspiring hope through the power of a dream for children between the ages of 3 and 18 years that are facing life threatening illnesses,” says Kerry Donkin, Reach For A Dream Foundation Regional Manager. “Our goal and focus is to ensure no child diagnosed with a life threatening illness, goes without knowing the power of a dream. The Absa RYC DURBAN 10K is a beautiful event that highlights the beauty of this wonderful city. I have met some wonderful people along the race routes in previous years. To those who have donated towards RFAD in the past, a big thank you. Your contribution has helped us make many dreams come true. For those who are entering this year or considering entering, please don’t forget to support our dreamers, and make your race count for more than just 10km.” For further information on Reach For a Dream please visit:  www.reachforadream.org.za
