ProNutro AfricanX Trailrun Boasts a New Stage Three Route

“Let Nature Give You A Run For Your Money”

The organisers of South Africa’s most exciting three day stage trail run, the ProNutro AfricanX Trailrun presented by New Balance, are proud to announce that the event will boast a completely new Stage Three Route in 2014.

Taking place in the picturesque Grabouw Region (Western Cape) the weekend of 14 – 16 March 2014, the ProNutro AfricanX Trailrun presented by New Balance celebrates its 6thanniversary this year.

“The 2014 event will see the introduction of a brand new Stage Three route,” says Nicola Collins, Event Manager.  “Starting at the Houw Hoek Inn, runners will begin by running down a section of the historical Kat Pass into Botrivier. From there the route continues onto the charming Beaumont Farm, where runners will navigate their way through some vineyards before starting a relatively long, steep climb leading to a spectacular single track contour. Here runners will be spoilt with unbeatable views of the mountains and the Botrivier area. Continuing along this single track, runners will soon be greeted with magnificent views of the valley leading back to Houw Hoek.  There will be a descent to a river crossing, followed by a climb back out of the valley where single track running ensues.  The route then meets up with a jeep track, from where some easy running will allow runners to make up some time and push for the finish line.  You can’t ask for a more magnificent and memorable end to three days of running”.

“The most important driving force behind this route change is that we want to ensure that runners have an awesome experience on the routes,” continues Collins.  “We’d like runners to go home with the desire to return next year.  In order to keep the event fresh and exciting, we are committed to exploring new routes.  The highlight of Stage Three will definitely be the single track section that traverses the mountains from Botrivier back to Houw Hoek.  The views are truly unbeatable and the terrain, although fairly technical, is trail running at its best.  The stage starts on a downhill, but runners need to ensure that they don’t run too fast on the down and tire themselves out for the running later on in the stage.  Stage Three is fun, beautiful and short, but by no means easy! The single track section is fairly technical and slow going.  Run steadily and patiently.  Don’t forget to enjoy the views”.

Nestled in the heart of the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve, the Houw Hoek Inn will once again host the Race Village of South Africa’s most exciting three day stage trail run.  Teamwork forms an essential part of this much loved event, with participants having to rely on each other’s experience, strength and expertise in order to complete the route.  Teams of two (male/female/mixed) will be seen battling it out on a route varying in distance between 25-34km each day.  The three routes have been planned in such a way that the participants will have the opportunity to tackle a different breathtaking scenic route each day, allowing them to enjoy the full beauty of the Overberg.
