Herbert Peters and Michelle Haines were the XTERRA Warriors to beat on Saturday, 22 February 2014 at the Totalsports XTERRA Lite presented by REHIDRAT® SPORT in Grabouw.
According to Peters, he was merely hoping for a top ten finish. “I’m from Namibia, we don’t have forests and woods to train in. I was hoping for a top ten finish, so I’m astonished and very proud to place first today. This is my first XTERRA event. The route was well marked, very technical with a lot of climbing. It’s awesome to win. I’ll definitely be back next year,” said Peters, who boasts a finishing time of 01hours20minutes10seconds. Dawie Carstens came in second, while Brandon Schlebusch finished third.
“Someone said gooi mielies so I did,” said an ecstatic Haines. “This is my first triathlon. I heard that XTERRA is really good, so I entered. The course was nice and diverse, while the vibe is awesome and energetic. I recommend this event as there is something for everyone”. Haines completed the Totalsports XTERRA Lite in a time of 01hours44minutes35seconds. Hanmarie Elizabeth Stadler came in second, while Deleen-Marie Steyn finished third.
The Totalsports XTERRA Grabouw Lite presented by REHIDRAT® SPORT saw XTERRA Warriors having to complete a 400m swim followed by a 12km mountain bike and finally a 5km trail run.
