North West Province – Teboho Noosi and Leilani Scheffer set the +-24km route ablaze at the 6th annual FNB Platinum Trail Run at the ATKV Buffelspoort on Sunday, 03 June 2018.

Following the wake of the infamous FNB Magalies Monster MTB Classic that took place at the same venue the day before (Saturday, 02 June) Trail Runners of all fitness levels were granted the opportunity to pit their running prowess against the magnificent trails on offer in the Magaliesberg.

Entrants could choose between a tough (but rewarding) +-24km route, a slightly less challenging +-12km route or a fun +-8km route.

Noosi secured the top spot on the podium in the men’s +-24km race crossing the finish line in 01 hour 23 minutes 21 seconds.  Heralding from Lesotho, Noosi welcomed the climbs that the FNB Platinum Trail Run is known for. “The race was very nice.  There were a lot of steep climbs.  This was my favourite part of the race as I am used to running hills in Lesotho.  I am training for the Mandela Day Marathon which is taking place in August.  Today’s race was part of my training.  Even though this is only my second trail run, I didn’t find the competition to be tough.  I definitely want to come back next year.”

Defending Champion, Givemore Mudzinganyama came in 2nd, while Samuel Matsepe finished 3rd.

Leilani Scheffer dominated the women’s +-24km FNB Platinum Trail Run claiming gold in a deserving time of 01 hour 47 minutes 52 seconds.  “I’ve been training for the Comrades Marathon, but recently decided that I will no longer be taking part.  This is literally my first trail run in 7-8 months.  Every year the event is perfectly organised and the routes are well-marked.  It is fun, beautiful and a great change of scenery.  I love coming here.  I must’ve convinced 50 people to take part today.  I am super happy to cross the finish line first.  The win definitely makes up for not going to Comrades.”

Andronica Mokgotla came in 2nd, while Galaletsasang Makgde finished 3rd.

Ofentse Mokotelalwena claimed gold in the men’s +-12km FNB Platinum Trail Run in 45 minutes 13 seconds.  Dan Matshailwe came in 2nd, while Collins Mabu finished 3rd.

Rene Reynecke was the runner to beat in the women’s +-12km FNB Platinum Trail Run crossing the finish line in 52 minutes 53 seconds.  Elizabeth Dlhiwayo came in 2nd, while Takalani Ndandani finished 3rd.

Itumeleng Khumalo was the first runner home in the +-8km FNB Platinum Trail Run securing the top spot on the podium in the men’s race in 37 minutes 09 seconds.  Ryan Mathaba came in 2nd, while Kabelo Sam finished 3rd.

The women’s +-8km FNB Platinum Trail Run was won by Phyllis de Fouw in 44 minutes 40 seconds.  Steffeny Visser came in 2nd, while Cindy Stacey finished 3rd.

“This year’s FNB Platinum Trail Run has been a major success and we are immensely proud to offer this experience to professional participants and many enthusiasts from across the country. We are equally proud of the role that this event continues to play in uplifting tourism in the region. Congratulations to all the participants, we hope to see many of them next year,” said Mike Vacy-Lyle, CEO of FNB Business.
