Off-road adventure seekers are in for a treat at the 17th annual FNB Magalies Monster MTB Classic and 7th annual FNB Platinum Trail Run that will be hosted at the bustling ATKV Buffelspoort on Saturday 01 and Sunday 02 June 2019 respectively.
“The FNB Magalies Monster MTB Classic and FNB Platinum Trail Run are two of the North West Province’s most revered off-road events,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director Stillwater Sports. “Encapsulating the splendour of the Magaliesberg, both events feature routes that are challenging yet rewarding. The festival village at the ATKV Buffelspoort is of such a nature that the entire family is guaranteed to have a memorable experience. This year a movie night has been added to the mix on the Saturday at 18:00. Families are invited to make it a weekend affair. Experience mountain-biking and trail running at its best.”
According to Harry Schubert, Course Designer, the MTB routes traverses one of the most attractive regions of the Magaliesberg. “The region has recently been declared a Unesco Biosphere, making this event the perfect showcase for the natural beauty of this area which features the second oldest mountain range in the world. The Marathon (+-65km) presents a great physical challenge. Riders must be well prepared in terms of their endurance and technical riding skills. The Half Marathon (+-35km) is the smaller brother of the “Monster”. It is suited for up-and-coming riders. The terrain of the shorter route however should not be underestimated. It is almost as challenging as that of the Full Monster. The Fun Ride (+-15km) is a good starting point for riders who are new to the sport and want to become a member of the “Monster” fraternity.”
“Trail runners can look forward to experiencing the real beauty of the Magaliesberg with its pristine vegetation and the magnificent views over the Buffelspoort Valley,” continues Schubert. “The 24km route is regarded as one of the toughest but most enjoyable running events in the country. The scenery and views from the mountain are stunning and make all the sweat and effort worthwhile. The 12km route will be the perfect stepping stone to build up experience and confidence for trail running. This route should not be viewed as a novice entry level distance. The 8km route is a good entry level distance. It is ideal for participants that are still getting into their stride. It is also ideal for runners who are looking for a hard, fast workout as part of a specific training program.”
