Sipho Madolo, a rider, will be seen teaming up with top marathon rider Erik Kleinhans at the 2014 FNB Wines2Whales (W2W) Mountain Bike (MTB) Race.  Starting at Lourensford Wine Estate (Somerset West) on Friday, 07 November 2014 and finishing at Onrus Caravan Park (just outside Hermanus) on Sunday, 09 November 2014, Madolo and Kleinhans will be gunning for at least one podium finish over the weekend.

“There are very few people in Kayamandi that mountain bike,” says Madolo, who is a prime example of the exceptional work that is doing in the small community of Kaymandi in Stellenbosch.  “My goal is to get out there and give my best.  Hopefully I’ll be able to inspire more children to take up the sport.  Although my strength is technical riding and short climbs, I never let other riders take advantage of my weaknesses.   Taking part in the FNB W2W in 2013 with Christoph Sauser was the best feeling ever.  Christoph is more than just a hero to me he is a friend, a coach and a mentor.   What I learnt that weekend definitely took me to the next level of racing”.

“This year I am just as excited to be riding with Erik Kleinhans,” continues Madolo.  “One of the best riders in the country, Erik works hard for what he wants and is a real inspiration to me.  He seems to be in the best shape ever.  This has motivated me to work even harder.  Our goal is to finish on the podium after a stage”.

According to Kleinhans, he is looking forward to taking part in the FNB W2W MTB Race with Sipho.  “We train together quite often, especially in the pre-season months.  I have a lot of respect for Sipho.  He has some incredible technical riding skills.  There is some tough competition in the race, so an overall podium is probably out of our reach, but we will give it our best.  I would recommend the FNB W2W MTB Events to other mountain bikers because of the trails, the great food, the people and because it takes place in wine country”.

Other teams taking part in the FNB W2W MTB Events include:

  1. Christoph Sauser and Konny Looser
  2. Oliver Munnik and Michael Creedon
  3. Cherise Stander and Colin Crawley
  4. Corne Krige and Paul Newman
  5. David Wright and Jan Joubert

Starting in the Winelands of Somerset West, riders cross through (and over) 13 wineries, 26 private farms, six mountains, historic roads and mountain passes, nature conservation areas (including the Kogelberg Biosphere) before finishing within sight of the famous whales of Hermanus!
