Top trail runner Thabang Madiba will return to Buffelspoort on Sunday, 25 May 2014 to defend his title at the second annual FNB Platinum Trail Run presented by ISUZU. Madiba claimed victory in 2013 after completing the 24km trail run in a lighting fast time of 01hour38minutes15seconds.
“I was very happy to finish first at the FNB Platinum Trail Run in 2013 as it was my first win after the National Championship,” said Madiba. “I really enjoyed the views from the top of the Magalies Mountains as well as the route as it was challenging. The first half of the route is challenging, while the last 10km demands speed with its descending jeep track. A podium finish is always my dream, while a win will be a bonus. The sport of trail running is growing, with the growth comes stronger competition which is good as our country will be able to send a stronger team to the world championship in future. The FNB Platinum Trail Run will serve as a test to see whether I am ready for Nationals,” says a very excited Madiba.
In the women’s race Anita O’Brien will be hoping for a successful title defence, while top trail runners Megan Mackenzie and Takalani Ndandani will be chasing hard.
