Jozi Charities set to shine at Heritage Day Virtual Run

Calling all Jozi runners!  ‘Run Your City’ in support of four Jozi Charities on Thursday 24 September 2020 at the FNB Run Your City Series (RYCS) Heritage Day Virtual Run!

The four charities are:  the Johannesburg Heritage Foundation, Johannesburg SPCA, Cotlands and the Reach For A Dream Foundation (RFAD).

The Johannesburg Heritage Foundation was established in 2012 emerging from the foundations laid by the Parktown and Westcliff Heritage Trust.  The Foundation is dedicated to the exploration, documentation, protection and restoration of Johannesburg’s built heritage.

According to Flo Bird, Vice Chairman at the Johannesburg Heritage Foundation, the FNB RYCS is a great way for people to enjoy their cities.  “I am thrilled that the event organisers have introduced a Virtual Run.  This demonstrates our belief that COVID-19 won’t keep us down. We will find a way.  Heritage Day is a great time to recognize the aspects we value in our heritage.   We invite all runners to become members of the Johannesburg Heritage Foundation.  It’s the first step in declaring a concern for the City’s heritage.”

The Johannesburg SPCA is a non- profit organisation that started operating in 1902 and is dependent on the kindness and support of individuals and companies.

“Going virtual is a wonderful way for people to still be able to take part, while staying safe,” says Liana Marx, PR Manager at Johannesburg SPCA.  “Heritage Day is a great day to host the virtual race because on this day South Africans are encouraged to celebrate their culture and the diversity of their beliefs and traditions, in the wider context of a nation that belongs to all its people.  The Johannesburg SPCA has definitely felt the impact of COVID-19.  We would really appreciate any form of support and would like to thank each and every runner in advance.”

Cotlands is a registered non-profit early childhood development organisation with a rich heritage of 84 years of experience in serving young, vulnerable children. Cotlands’ vision is to see children thrive in their pre-school years by increasing their access to play-based early learning opportunities.

“The FNB RYCS Heritage Day Virtual Run is a wonderful way to unite residents of a city virtually,” says Natalie Frank, Marketing and Communications Manager at Cotlands.  “Heritage Day is a great day to host the Virtual Run. It is the one day that we can celebrate our diverse cultural heritage and the contribution that each one of us living in South Africa can make to building a better country.  This is the time for random acts of kindness, where we need to help and support each other.  We are both excited and proud to be one of the charities of choice for the Heritage Day Virtual Run.”

Established in 1988, Reach For A Dream seeks to inspire hope and help children to believe in the power of dreams.

“Not only does the FNB RYCS bring communities together to promote a healthy lifestyle, but it also promotes the upliftment of causes such as our own,” says Chloe Katompa, Regional Manager of Reach For A Dream Gauteng.  “The event organisers have proven to be innovative and adaptable to the changes that the pandemic has brought.  We feel privileged to part of the inaugural Heritage Day Virtual Run.”
