Newtown (Johannesburg) – Thousands of women will lace up their takkies on Sunday, 09 August 2015 to ‘Run Their City’ at the Totalsports Women’s Race in support of PinkDrive.
Taking place on National Women’s Day, the Totalsports Women’s Race supports PinkDrive, a Non-Profit Company (NPC) that is committed to improving breast cancer awareness, education, and providing and offering services to women across South Africa.
“The Totalsports Women’s Race is a wonderful manner in which women can support our cause, while coming out in solidarity to honour those who have lost the fight against breast cancer, who are survivors of this dreaded disease and lastly to celebrate life,” says Noelene Kotschan, PinkDrive Founder and CEO. “PinkDrive would like to express the importance that early detection saves lives. Our medical staff will be on hand to do clinical breast examinations; a PinkDrive representative will do a mass educational talk, while Teresa Wilson, a breast Cancer Survivor, will share her story”.
“I was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer in April 2012,” says Wilson. “My treatment consisted of six months of chemo, surgery and thirty three sessions of radiation. I tried to run for as long as possible, but gave up on the idea three months into chemo. I was very excited to hear that I’d be able to start running again three weeks after my surgery which took place on 10 October 2012. My radiation and running started on 31 October. I ran four to five times a week whilst undergoing radiation. I was training towards my ‘come back run’ which was in January 2013. I also took part in the 2013 Comrades Marathon, seven months after my last chemo session. I kicked cancer’s butt! I would like people to realise that a positive and determined mind cannot be beaten by cancer. We are survivors. It’s not an easy journey, but it is possible. The Totalsports Women’s Race is a wonderful way to get woman together, while giving beginners the platform to participate in races”.
