Western Cape – Just under 600 trail running enthusiasts gathered at the picturesque Grabouw Country Club on Sunday, 21 February 2016 to partake in the splendour of the 2016 PUMA Trail Run.

Forming part of the action of South Africa’s largest off road triathlon, the Fedhealth XTERRA, the PUMA Trail Run incorporated the XTERRA trail run routes. Runners could choose between a 6km and 12km route that encapsulated the true beauty of Grabouw.

South African 10km Road Champion, Elroy Galant was unstoppable in the men’s 12km PUMA Trail Run claiming gold in an impressive time of 46 minutes 14 seconds. “I was in Cape Town this week for a product launch. I heard about the PUMA Trail Run and thought that it would be great cross training for me. The route was really beautiful and a nice change from road running. I would definitely like to come back next year,” says Galant. Dominik Wychera of Austria came in second, while Rohan Kennedy finished third.

Celeste Renaud completed the 12km PUMA Trail Run in a lighting fast time of 52 minutes 39 seconds. “I supported the XTERRA Full race on Saturday, but felt that I was missing out,” said Renaud. “I am a road triathlete, but would really like to take part in XTERRA, so I thought that I’d start by taking part in the PUMA Trail Run. The race started at a fast pace. At one point I was running together with two other women. With them being experienced trail runners, I knew that they’d be fast on the down-hills and that I had to run as fast as possible. The last section along the dam was fast and flat, but the loose sand made it really tough. I wasn’t expecting such a cool vibe at the finish, especially not at that time of the morning. The event was awesome and the course was beautiful. I’ll definitely be back next year.” Austrian Sandra Koblmuller came in second, while Leilani Scheffer finished third.

Christopher Nortjie secured the top spot on the podium in the men’s 6km PUMA Trail Run in an impressive time of 31 minutes 34 seconds. Johan Pringley came in second, while Tainn Gordon finished third.

Rosemary Jonck was the lady to beat in the 6km PUMA Trail Run, claiming victory in 35 minutes 11 seconds.   Marishka Du Plessis came in second, while Franselle Rossouw finished third.
