Distell, the producers and marketers of a diverse portfolio of award-winning brands including Savanna, has made a donation of R50 000 towards the restoration of the Jonkershoek Trails, the home of the iconic Savanna Origin of Trails MTB and Trail Run Experience.
“Jonkershoek has affectionately been dubbed the home of the Savanna Origin of Trails MTB and Trail Run Experience,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports and founder of the events. “Earlier this year the Jonkershoek Valley was hard hit by a Boland fire that devastated the forests and severely damaged the magnificent trail network. When they heard about the extent of the fire damage, Distell immediately asked how they could get involved. We could not ask for a better title sponsor, their passion for the sport and love of the surrounding area is truly inspiring.”
Kavir Gangiah, Media, Sponsorship and Events Manager Distell Southern Africa, said: “We fell in love with the Jonkershoek trails in 2019 when Savanna signed as the title sponsor of the Savanna Origin of Trails MTB and Trail Run Experience. We knew that Jonkershoek was special, but only realized how special when we got to experience the trails firsthand. It truly is an adventure seeker’s paradise. The news of the fire and the damage that it caused shocked us. As a Stellenbosch based company and the title sponsor of the Savanna Origin of Trails, we are proud to be able to contribute towards the renewal of this amazing trail network and ultimately help ensure that the home of the Savanna Origin of Trails is restored to its former glory.”
