Defending Champions Ready for Round Two at ProNutro AficanX Trailrun

“Let Nature Give You A Run For Your Money”

Top South African trail runners Michael Bailey and Ben Brimble will resume their partnership the weekend of 14 – 16 March 2014 when they defend their title at South Africa’s most exciting three day stage trail run, the ProNutro AfricanX Trailrun presented by New Balance in the picturesque area of Grabouw.

Bailey and Brimble claimed victory in the men’s race after completing this much talked about three day stage trail run in an impressive combined time of 06hours26minutes05seconds.

If successful, Bailey will be able to boast with his 4th title at this much loved event.  “The ProNutro AfricanX Trailrun has a great vibe and is good fun,” says Bailey.  “The event is well organised and everyone is so friendly.  Taking gold in the men’s race in 2013 was definitely one of the highlights of my career, and winning the title for the third time was extra special.  Ben and I are good friends and we’ll definitely be going for the win.  We’ve spoken a lot about the race and know exactly what our game plan is.  We also do a lot of training together which makes us a strong team.  We are determined to win and we are focused.  Our toughest competition this year will be Kane Reilly and Thabang Madiba, but then again the competition gets stronger each year.   So we have prepared well”.

According to Brimble, their team goal is to successfully defend their title.  “I enjoy the team aspect of the ProNutro AfricanX Trailrun.  No other race has it.  Michael and I raced last year and it went well.  We also train together quite a bit so our partnership is a good fit.   The best part of team racing is that there is someone there to help you along when the going gets a bit tough.  The toughest part of team racing is running at the correct pace for both you and your partner.  Communication is a key factor,” says Brimble.

Husband and wife duo, Landie and Christiaan Greyling will also be back in action defending their mixed team title at the 2014 ProNutro AfricanX Trailrun presented by New Balance.   “Christiaan is super strong, a great team player and knows my strengths and weaknesses all too well,” says Landie.  “I enjoyed the whole experience of the 2013 event, including the sharing of tales at prize giving each night.  As a team Christiaan and I match each other’s mental strength, we run off each other’s energy, can communicate honestly and we both love trail running”.

According to Christiaan, the ProNutro AfricanX Trailrun is the perfect event to kick the year off with.  “The ProNutro AfricanX Trailrun is one of my favourite events.  I decided on Day One last year already that I would be back in 2014.  I enjoy going back each day to race against the best athletes on the best trails.  The event is extremely well organised and excellent value for money,” says Christiaan.

Other top teams to look out for will include:  Kane Reilly and Thabang Madiba, A.J Calitz and Bernard Rakudza, Antoine Van Heerden and Morne Van Greunen, Nicholas Rupanga and Thembelani Zola, Nic De Beer and Tsungai Mwanengeni, Chad Gordon and Dion Middelkoop, Dawid Visser and Warren Petterson, Noel Ernstzen and Derrick Baard,Eddie Lambert and Marie Wessels, Takalani Nthulane-Ndandani and Mazu Ndandani, Jacques Mouton and Leilani Scheffer, Meg Mackenzie and Andrew Erasmus, Chantel Nienaber and Katya Soggot and Su Don Wauchope and Robyn Kime to name just a few.
