“Let Nature Give You A Run For Your Money”
The organizers of South Africa’s premier three-day stage trail run, the AFRICANX TRAILRUN that will take place at the exquisite Houw Hoek Hotel (Western Cape) from Friday 17 – Sunday 19 March 2023, are calling on all entrants to submit their nominations for the event’s treasured ‘Sanet Wentzel Spirit’ Award.
“The ‘Sanet Wentzel Spirit’ Award was introduced in the second year of the AFRICANX TRAILRUN (2010) in honour of Sanet Wentzel, an Oudtshoorn based athlete who passed away tragically at the end of 2009,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports and founder of the AFRICANX TRAILRUN. “Sanet participated in the inaugural event in 2009 and was training for the 2010 event when she was knocked down by a car. The ‘Sanet Wentzel Spirit’ Award was founded in memory of this fallen athlete. Often the source of many heartfelt tears, the trophy honours the AFRICANX’s most inspirational athletes, athletes who persevere irrespective of the adversity that they face.”
“We call on all AFRICANX entrants to help us identify this year’s recipient,” continues Meyer. “If there is one thing that the trail running community is good at, it’s being there for each other. We would like to honour this athlete and show him/her that they are not alone. You have a trail running family that cares.”
Trail runners that have entered the 2023 AFRICANX TRAILRUN Three-Day Stage Race are encouraged to send their nominations to entries@stillwatersports.com by Wednesday 15 March.

Launched in 2009, the AFRICANX TRAILRUN 3-Day Stage Race is synonymous with magnificent trails, spectacular views, mouth-watering food, a relaxed atmosphere, great vibe and most importantly, TEAMWORK! Teams of two trail running enthusiasts (male/female/mixed) will be seen battling it out on a route varying in distances each day.
