Janet Clark from Team Unlimited gives the following advice to XTERRA SA athletes travelling to Maui: "Flying is the only way to go between Oahu and Maui. Flights are as little as $39 one way. You should book Hawaiian Airlines (www.hawaiianair.com).

When you have booked your trip, email your confirmation # to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it and your bike will fly free. Hawaiian is one of our sponsors, and it makes a huge difference in cost. You can read more about our bike waiver program on the World Championship page at xterraplanet.com.

It is a long trip from South Africa to Hawaii. Totally your call as to whether you keep going to Maui (less than 1/2 hour flight) or stay a day in Honolulu. Ann Mickey is our athlete coordinator ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ) and can help you with travel questions. She and I and the rest of our crew are in Virginia for an XTERRA race this weekend, and will work on this when we get back to the office next week."

SOME MORE INFO:

The most efficient type of accomodations are "home stays" in which you share the home of a resident on an invitation basis. I don't know much about this so I am forwarding to Dave Nicholas, Managing Director, XTERRA World Tour, and ask that he offer you advice

Another good source is to look at www.vrbo.com , click on Hawaii and then Maui and begin your search. There will certainly be expensive hotels and condos listed but there will also be more modest accomodations available for you to consider. One last thought is to contact the South Maui Bike Shop and see if they have any leads. You can find them with a Google search."
